Skin Disorders

Your skin is a reflection of your body's health.

The skin is the largest organ of the body. It protects us, retains our bodily fluids, and is a major route for eliminating the body’s waste. As we sweat, the skin excretes toxins for waste removal, and if there is an overabundance of these toxins in the area, it will cause the skin to become inflamed, painful, and discolored. This reaction can signify a problem in another elimination organ such as the liver, kidneys, or gastrointestinal tract. Hormones and lifestyle habits, such as sun exposure, smoking, drinking, exercise, and diet also play an important role in skin health.

Since the skin is the outer layer of the body, it’s subject to stressors like UV light, environmental toxins, pathogens, and physical trauma.  Using naturopathic therapies and minor surgery procedures for skin health, physicians at the SCNM Clinic are treating:

  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema
  • Acne vulgaris and rosacea
  • Cold sores
  • Rashes
  • Warts
  • Skin tags
  • Carbuncles, furuncles
  • Folliculitis
  • Cellulitis
  • Seborrheic keratosis
  • Actinic keratosis
  • Impetigo
  • Canker sores
  • Fungal infections
  • Shingles
  • Tinea versicolor

The health of your skin is a reflection of the health of the rest of your body.  Many internal diseases manifest on the skin, each telling a unique story about what could be going inside your body. Skin symptoms can be related to:

  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Circulatory issues
  • Liver disorders
  • Internal toxicity
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus

In these cases, the skin is providing a valuable message about systemic problems.  Often, treating the root cause of the problem will resolve the skin issues without direct treatment. This is because the body has a natural tendency to heal once the obstacles to the cure have been removed.

Treatment varies from person to person, but options include topical salves, hypoallergenic diets, supplementation, homeopathy, acupuncture, colon hydrotherapy, and mind-body medicine.  In addition to naturopathic treatment, the SCNM Clinic also provides minor surgery procedures like biopsies, growth removals, wound suturing, and ingrown toe nail removal.

SCNM physicians provide quality naturopathic care as well as minor surgery procedures. Ask about our minor surgery clinics. It’s time to feel healthy and look healthy too.  Click here to schedule an appointment with an SCNM physician, student clinician or resident, or call 480.428.3232.
