3 Foods That Boost Your Sex Drive (And 3 That Kill It)

10/5/2017

When practiced safely, sex is great for your overall health.  Sex relieves anxiety and depression, strengthens your immune system, keeps your hormones in balance and burns calories.

Your nutrition can impact your sex life either positively or negatively depending on what you eat.  Check out these foods below to learn what foods can help or hurt your sex drive.

Libido Enhancers

Dark Chocolate

Great news for chocolate lovers! Cocoa increases blood flow which aids in stimulation during sex.  Chocolate also increases the feel good chemicals serotonin and dopamine in the brain.

Green Tea

Green tea is delicious, but it also helps in the bedroom.  Green tea is particularly high in catechin, a natural phenol and antioxidant that promotes blood flow to sex organs.

Oysters

Oysters are great for libido because they contain a lot of zinc.  This mineral helps both men and women produce testosterone, a key hormone for arousal and desire.

Libido Killers

Cheese

Cheese often contains synthetic hormones, which can throw estrogen and testosterone levels out of balance in both men and women.

Sugar

As if you needed another reason to avoid sugar, it also hurts your performance in the bedroom.  Sugar leads to increased fat stores, which in turn increase estrogen and lower testosterone.  This damages libido in both genders and can lead to erectile dysfunction in men.  Sugar crashes can also make you feel sluggish and not "in the mood."

Licorice

It isn't just the sugar in licorice that hurts your sex drive.  Glycyrrhizic acid, the main compound found in licorice, has been shown to decrease testosterone levels.
