Cholesterol is used by your body to build healthy cells. However, too much cholesterol in your blood can increase your risk of heart disease. High cholesterol can lead to a fatty buildup known as a plaque on the inside of your blood vessels.  High cholesterol can be a result of your genetics, but the most common cause is an unhealthy diet.
