“SCNM took the time that all of the other doctors for years did not.”
For years, all Susan heard from doctors were things like: “Well Susan, we just don’t know why you’re sick,” or, “I’m not sure what’s going on, but take more pain medication and let’s follow up.”
She had enough.
“I no longer had a quality of life,” Susan said. “I was afraid to date, afraid to shop, and even worried how long it took to get to work because I was plagued with severe stomach pain, diarrhea and nausea, and [I] never could predict feeling well after eating.”
Susan told herself the issues all stemmed from chemotherapy treatments she had received, and that she had a compromised immune system. She let herself believe it was just how her life was meant to be.
But upon turning 50, she finally said “no more.” She contacted the SCNM Medical Center for help, and during a four-hour appointment, she explained her medical history of joint pain, nausea, seizures, migraines, vomiting, digestive trouble, irritability, depression, cancer, Epstein–Barr virus and thyroid disease.
“After four hours with Dr. Gaines and [the student doctors], my life changed,” Susan said. “They took an IgG food sensitivity test and found out I was allergic to 26 main foods, all of which I was eating every day for years.”
Dr. Gaines diagnosed Susan with leaky gut, and she chose to immediately change her diet. From there, her symptoms disappeared. The seizures and migraines stopped, she began going out and shopping without worry, and she could finally focus.
“SCNM took the time that all of the other doctors for years did not,” Susan added. “They listened, planned and cared! After four and a half months on the new diet, I [considered] it a new lease on life! THANK YOU! I can be human now and live like everyone else.”
