“I was so sad, so discouraged.” – Wendy Cuthbertson
When I stopped using birth control pills at the age of 26, I experienced severe cystic acne. I was prescribed strong antibiotics by a dermatologist. The antibiotics helped, but what I didn’t know at the time was that the antibiotics would cause major problems with my digestive system. I ended up with Candida in my gut.
In June 2011, I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids and my gynecologist recommends a hysterectomy. I declined and went to visit a naturopath, who prescribed supplements and progesterone-biodenticals. Due to increased issues with the fibroids, I received a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy in December 2012. A month prior to my surgery, I discontinued use of all supplements, including the progesterone-biodenticals. I learned later this was a mistake.
In January of 2013 my forehead broke out severely with cystic acne. They were very large, painful, and unattractive. I immediately visited my general practitioner to get it under control. I was prescribed Doxycycline and Adapalene as a topical. After taking the antibiotics for a week, I began to have stomach pain that doubled me over. Although the acne had reduced, it was not gone, and I discontinued the antibiotics.
I searched online for answers regarding cystic acne, but felt discouraged because many girls seemed to be on many antibiotics or accutane and they still continued to battle severe cystic acne. I couldn’t find any answers of a treatment for cystic acne.
I turned to Dr. Dejarra Sims at the SCNM Medical Center. I came in discouraged, sad, and extremely desperate. Antibiotics had slightly helped, but at the cost of lifelong problems with my digestive system and did not rid me of cystic acne. I hoped to find a treatment without the use of conventional medications.
When Dr. Sims saw me, she was full of smiles and said, “I know what to do. You are going to be our miracle acne patient!” Upon hearing those words, emotion swept over me, and my discouragement was replaced with happiness and hope.
Dr. Sims began injections into each lesion on my face the following week. Some lesions received more than one injection because of their size. Dr. Sims also prescribed a special compound cream to use in place of all the other topical creams I had been using. The cream was soothing and caused no irritation. It assisted in reducing swelling, redness and any scarring.
For six months, I had weekly injections, ate healthy foods, took supplements, drank 64 ounces of water daily, performed a 2-week ITI cleanse, and continuing with the progesterone-biodentical cream. Every week, the lesions showed improvement and reduced both in size and in quantity. I was amazed at the rapid improvement. I gained renewed confidence to face the public as the lesions improved.
My journey with Dr. Sims and the student clinicians at SCNM Medical Center has been a miraculous journey. I hope my story provides inspiration for people to visit the SCNM Medical Center and start healing themselves naturally without the side effects of conventional medication.
