Cold, Flu, Fever, Viruses
Each winter the influenza virus wreaks havoc on our ability to work and play. Symptoms of the flu include fever, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, runny nose, cough, and stomach symptoms like nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Sometimes a flu virus can come on slowly or it can hit suddenly without much notice.
At the SCNM Medical Center, our providers are prepared to help you battle through flu season, combining preventative measures with a whole-body approach that’s designed to assess potential health risks and address any root causes found.
Pain Relief & Management
There are two main types of pain:
Acute pain is a normal response to an injury, such as a sprain, break, or torn/pulled muscle. It arises suddenly and is usually quickly resolved. Chronic pain extends beyond the time expected for healing and persists for three months or more. Many chronic pain cases can stem from autoimmune conditions such as arthritis or injuries that haven't fully healed.
The best approach for managing pain is to utilize a range of therapies: deep tissue work, spinal manipulation, anti inflammatory diet, relaxation techniques, meditation, acupuncture, injection therapies and sometimes pain relieving medicine and/or supplements.
IV & IM Therapies
IV therapy is the administration of fluid with or without nutrients or medications directly into your vein for fast delivery. IM therapy is another quick method for administration of substance, but into your muscle.
The skin is the largest, most visible organ of our body! It is susceptible to a variety of conditions that can be quite troublesome, and even life-threatening, to patients. At SCNM, we will work with you to develop a treatment plan that addresses the root cause of your concerns and promotes the body’s innate ability to heal itself to restore your skin’s natural beauty. We will also help you find the appropriate provider when referral is needed.
Mental Health & Well-being
Respect for the mind-body connection is at the heart of holistic medicine. Prolonged stress, grief, trauma and difficult emotions often sit at the root of mental illness, pain syndromes and chronic disease. Addressing your mental health and stress management needs is essential for optimal wellness.
Good digestive health is the foundation of overall health. Optimizing your ability to absorb nutrients and fine-tuning a dietary approach specific to your needs is an excellent way to begin your journey to better health.
Family medicine practitioners provide a range of healthcare services for their patients. Diagnosing diseases early and identifying risk factors are vital to maintaining and improving your health and wellness. Our family medicine providers seek to develop a long-term relationship with you to understand and treat you as a whole person. As partners in your healthcare, they practice the naturopathic principle Docere – latin for doctor as teacher, to educate and empower. Using natural medicine, they can help you improve your health – body, mind and spirit. They will evaluate your current health status and work to address chronic health problems or just support your healthy lifestyle. If a new condition arises that requires special care, it will be addressed before it becomes a larger problem. Your appointment will take longer because the time spent listening is critical to understanding your concerns and identifying its underlying causes. Chronic conditions typically are believed to be life-long diagnoses and can be associated with long-term conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, heart conditions, and more. However, by implementing strategies that address the root cause of the condition, it’s possible for some chronic conditions to be reversed – especially those relating to metabolism.
