Flu Vaccine

Flu vaccine

A Preservative-Free Alternative.

At the SCNM Medical Center, we provide you with extensive information on all possible treatment options. Then, we work with you to agree on a plan of action. During the autumn months, you have the option of taking a preservative-free, single-dose flu vaccine.

Why Preservative-Free?

More people are becoming aware of their exposure to pesticides, medications and heavy metals. Thimerosal, a the mercury-based preservative found in multi-dose flu vaccines, are used in most clinics because it lowers the vaccine's cost. By taking a single-dose vaccine, you are reducing your exposure to mercury.

How Else is This Vaccine Different?

The formulation of the vaccine is identical to conventional vaccines in every other way. It contains the same three or four strains that the CDC decides upon each year.

How Effective is the Flu Vaccine?

Effectiveness varies depending on each flu season. Studies researching efficacy also vary greatly.

Who Should Not Get the Flu Vaccine?

  • Anyone with a severe egg allergy
  • Infants under six months old
  • Anyone with an allergy to any of the ingredients in the vaccine
  • Anyone with a high fever at the time of vaccination
  • Anyone with a history of Guillain-Barre syndrome
